Mustapha Umar Mustapha College of Nursing and Midwifery was founded in 2021 By Barrister Ibrahim Shehu Birma (THE BIRMA OF BIU) with view to enhance human capital development of the area and the state at large in the health sector, Barrister Ibrahim Shehu Birma is also the Chairman Board of Directors and Governing Council of the College, a lawyer by training and a business/farmer was called to Nigerian Bar in 1985. The Ultimate aim of the College is to widen the Medical Science horizon and contribute to the socio-economic development of the state. The College is Registered with various registration bodies such as the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and all other relevant regulatory bodies. The College was primarily established to cater for the much-needed Nurses and Midwives that will serve as manpower for the increasing number of Hospitals, Health Centers and Clinics established across the state. The College is mandated to produce competent Nurses and Midwives that can deliver quality healthcare services nationally and internationally. The College is overseen by a Governing Council.  The College has a conducive atmosphere and adequate teaching-learning facilities and activities. The activities of the College are regulated by The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN). On completion of training, students are Certified, Registered and Licensed to practice as Nurses/Midwives by the NMCN.
